I now pronounce you disinvited.
A Redditor, who goes by @Powerful-Lettuce-999, posted online that she was disinvited from her friend’s wedding after paying over $1,000 for her flight to Asia.
The user shared her unfortunate scenario on Aug. 25, detailing the disheartening feeling when she found out she could no longer attend the bride’s celebration.
“I am feeling so embarrassed because I already told my friends and family I was invited to a destination wedding and to tell people I was uninvited is so embarrassing,” she wrote.
As the wedding approached, the bride contacted the friend group, alerting them that she didn’t have enough accommodations for them, so they couldn’t attend.
“Hey guys, I’m so sorry to tell you this, but I do not have any accommodation left for you all for the wedding. I sincerely apologize. I hope you all haven’t booked tickets as yet,” the friend wrote.
Devastated by the news, the Reddit user messaged her privately, letting her know she had already arranged to attend the destination wedding.
“I literally just booked my tickets and everything like three days ago because our agent knew and found something,” she wrote. “I’m gonna try to cancel but I don’t think I can. I understand how the space was limited to family and all that, so it’s fine, no worries.”
Although disappointed, the disinvited wedding guest tried to be understanding of the unfortunate situation.
Luckily enough, she didn’t have to sit in sorrow for too long because the bride caved in and confirmed, “She will figure something out,” so her friend could attend the wedding.
However, her only stipulation was to keep it a secret from her other uninvited gal pals.
“Please don’t tell the rest of the group. She said the hotel staff are not budging on accommodations or something,” the bride said.
The secrecy pact didn’t feel right, so she considered not going.
“I feel so icky about all of this. I wish she had at least extended wedding invites if they can’t do accommodations, I’d understand and book my own accommodation,” she revealed.
The Redditor user claimed that if she canceled her flight, she might be able to get a partial refund, but if she attended the wedding, she would feel bad about her friends not making the cut.
Confused about what to do, she asked her fellow Redditors for help, “Please [give me] some advice?”
“If I already paid for tickets, I’d go and have a mini vacation regardless of whether she wanted me at the wedding or not,” suggested one person.
“Makes me think she invited way more people than she could have accommodated and didn’t think that many people would actually show up for her destination wedding,” another wrote.
“Are there zero hotels or airbnbs in the area?” questioned a Redditor.
The original poster replied, “There’s plenty. So that’s why I’m confused. Like, I’m going to ask her again if the issue is accommodation or wedding size in general.”
“You should not feel embarrassed in the least, but your friend should feel horrified. What they’ve done is incredibly rude,” one person commented.
“Screw this ‘friend.’ If you can’t cancel your plane, change it and go somewhere else. Life is too short to have people like that in it,” a Redditor professed.
