She didn’t even take an arrow in the knee.
Shirley Curry, known online as the video game streamer “Skryim Grandma,” announced she is calling it quits from publically playing the mythical game after over a decade.
“It seems I spend most of my time sitting in here at this computer, and lately – probably for the last month – I walk in here and look at my computer, and think ‘I’ve got to make a video today,’” Curry, 88, said in a recent goodbye vlog to her 1.3 million YouTube subscribers.
“I’m just doing it for fun, and it isn’t fun anymore. I’m tired of it, and I’m bored to death with it. So I’m making the decision now, totally, finally, I am not going to be making any more game videos,’” the avid gamer since her son got her started in the 90s added.
Curry said a more recent conversation with her son also made her realize how much pressure she puts on herself to create game content.
It helped her conclude this was the time to take a step back.
Still, she is encouraging players to look back on her years of footage to aid them in their own quests. Curry said in 2017 that the hit game Skyrim became her favorite largely because of its scenery and flowers.
She also stressed that it’s not about how good you do, but just that you’re enjoying yourself.
During her 13 years at the helm, Curry was enshrined in different by both developers and fans as a non-playable character among other roles. She also launched a clothing line related to her gaming.
“You have been a beacon of light and joy for me and many others over the years,” one commented on the farewell video.
“If it’s not fun anymore, we’d much rather you spend your time doing something that makes you happy,” another replied.
Now, Curry is taking a little time to broaden her horizons AFK — or away from her keyboard.
“I’m going to start making a quilt I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time,” she said. “I designed the squares a long time ago, so it’s going to be a quilt I’ve designed.”
However, this isn’t truly the end, the online celebrity mentioned.
“I’ll see you in a blog later on, I promise.”
